Inductee Biography for DWIGHT TINDLE

Dwight_ indleDwight Tindle made a difference in many lives in the Phoenix area. He made a difference in radio listening habits as the owner and founder of a legendary radio station named KDKB. He also made a difference in everyone who came in touch with this media visionary.

In the 1970’s KDKB became a pioneer in the radio broadcasting industry. Dwight Tindle created a free-form commercial FM radio station that played rock and roll. However, it was not your standard formulated Top 40 station. Dwight led a team of creative on air personalities that were improvisational but had a direction and continuity to it.

KDKB under Dwight Tindle’s direction spotlighted and promoted local area talent such as Hans Olson, Jerry Riopelle, The Tubes and many others helping those acts get much needed exposure to an audience. He also created many of the stations successful promotions and public affairs programming that would garner high ratings and recognition like winning a national PEABODY AWARD. KDKB radio was number one in Phoenix for many years because of its innovation, creativity and local and national reach.

Dwight Tindle did not do anything in his life half way. After selling KDKB and other stations he built a successful advertising, marketing and a music licensing company. He also became involved in film that led to an Oscar for a best live action short subject. He was also vice president of business development of a telecommunications firm.

Dwight’s love of music would have him again hosting a free-form radio show called Radio Free Phoenix in 1998.

Yes, Dwight Tindle was a visionary that was very passionate of what he achieved in life. What he achieved was a lasting and memorable legacy
and the love and respect of an awful lot of people in and out of the entertainment industry. It is because of the impact he made that he deserves a place in the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall Of Fame.
